About Blanding

Blanding is located in Southeast Utah, next to the Blue or Abajo Mountains. Here, you'll find some of our area's most iconic attractions.

The Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum, for example, is actually three attractions in one: a museum, and archaeological repository, and an Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) archaeological site.

Another Blanding attraction you won't want to miss is the Dinosaur Museum. The museum has an extensive collection of artifacts, including dinosaur eggs, fossilized skin, and dinosaur bones.

Nearby Attractions

Blanding, Utah is within an hour of some of Southern Utah's most fascinating parks, monuments, and museums.

  • Valley of the Gods is a sandstone valley with amazing geologic formations, including buttes, pinnacles, and soaring mesa walls. It's about an hour southwest of Blanding.

  • Bears Ears National Monument, just west of us, is a largely undeveloped monument, with over 100,000 protected archaeological sites.

  • Goosenecks State Park is a primitive, largely undeveloped state park. The park is great for night photography due to the lack of light pollution. It's about 50 minutes southeast of Blanding.

  • Hovenweep National Monument is made up of the remnants of six ancient Anasazi Indian communities, and it's also about 50 minutes to the southeast.

  • Natural Bridges National Monument, an hour west of Blanding, has one of the largest natural bridges in the world. Overall, the monument has three natural bridges situated between two adjacent canyons.

Winter tripping

Just finished a two week trip with friends rolling through Utah as part of a birthday celebration for turning 70. Obviously the canyons and rock formations were the highlights of the trip. But our night at the Stone Lizard Lodge was right up there. What a peasant surprise. The rooms were beautifully decorated. The owners and (family) staff were a delight and the breakfast was scrumptious. Before we left town we also visited the trading post owned by the same family. More great people there. The SLL gets my highest recommendation.

Stone Lizard Rocks

What a great find in Blanding, Utah. This hotel should be an experience on every traveler's list. Sort of a southwestern art deco experience, with wonderful amenities and a beautiful courtyard where you can eat your wonderful freshly prepared breakfast. The cinnamon rolls are to die for. The rooms have been highly remodeled and the showers are not your usual brand x motel showers. Our room came with two separate bedrooms, with a queen bed in each room. The ambiance, cleanliness and functionality of these rooms was truly appreciated after a long day driving through the middle of nowhere. Staff was very personable and helpful..

Very warm and inviting!

What a happy surprise! Quaint, unique, super clean and inviting. Very roomy, two A/C units in the two bedrooms so everyone was comfortable. Free breakfast is wonderful too! Homemade wheat bread cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven, yummy! They have a big courtyard behind the hotel, perfect for enjoying breakfast outside, well decorated and trimmed. I would highly recommend it as an alternative to a big chain. Support the locals!
